The element-animal year
The sixty-year cycle pairs twelve animals (Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, Pig) with ten heavenly stems that give five elements, each appearing twice — once male (yang) and once female (yin). The calculator finds your year in the cycle from the stem and branch, translates the stem's element into the Tibetan names (Wood, Fire, Earth, Iron, Water) and the stem's polarity into male or female, and prints the full year name. The animal describes temperament, the element the quality of the year's energy, and the gender its mode of expression; Tibetan almanacs use the same three to rate the harmony between two people's years.
The natal mewa
The mewa (sme ba) are the nine numbers of the Lo Shu magic square, arranged so that every row, column and diagonal sums to fifteen. They cycle backwards through the years — 1984 is mewa 7 Red, 1985 mewa 6 White, 1986 mewa 5 Yellow — and the same arithmetic gives the Nine Star Ki principal star, which is why the two systems always agree on the number even though they read it differently. Your natal mewa is read with its colour: 1 White for quiet strength and spirituality, 2 Black for hard work and protection of family, 5 Yellow for central power, 7 Red for charm and liveliness, 9 Red for brightness and ambition, and so on. The card prints the meaning from the same reference the AI reading uses.
Losar and the February boundary
The Tibetan year begins at Losar, the new moon that opens the first month of the Phugpa calendar — any day from 4 February to the first week of March, moving from year to year. The calculator takes the Losar date of your birth year from the table in Svante Janson's Tibetan Calendar Mathematics (1927–2046) and counts the Tibetan day from dawn, as the calendar does: born on or after Losar, your year is that year; born before it, the previous one. So 25 February 1990 is an Earth Female Snake, while the solar-term year of the BaZi and Nine Star Ki calculators, which turns at Lichun about 4 February, already counts it as 1990. Only a birth on Losar day itself with no time is flagged, because a birth before dawn that day still belongs to the old year. Outside 1927–2046 the solar-term year stands in and every birth from late January to mid-March is flagged.
What is not computed
Full Jung-tsi also assigns each person a parkha (one of eight trigrams, from the mother's parkha and the birth year) and derives the four forces of life (la, sok, wang, lung) from the year's element for the annual obstacle-year readings. Those need conventions this calculator does not carry, so they are not shown. The elemental compatibility between two people's years and the "obstacle years" that Tibetan astrology counts every twelve years are read by the AI from the year name, but the card itself states only what it has computed.
Tibetan year inside a ProxaAI reading
Tick "Tibetan element-animal year and mewa" on your kundli and the numerologist specialist reads your year name and mewa in one labelled paragraph next to your numerology cycles — for the temperament of your year, the harmony with the current year's mewa and element, and the traditional cautions of an obstacle year. Users born in Bhutan and Mongolia get it pre-selected; anyone can add it. It sits beside the Vedic kundli without being mixed into it.
