Free KP Sub Lord Calculator

Enter your birth date, time and place to get your KP chart: the twelve Placidus cusps under the Krishnamurti ayanamsa with their sign lord, star lord and sub lord, and every planet with its sub lord, house and the houses it signifies at levels A, B, C and D. This is the table a KP astrologer builds before judging any question.

The KP System (Krishnamurti Paddhati) refines Vedic astrology in three computable ways: it uses its own ayanamsa (about six arc-minutes less than Lahiri), it places planets by Placidus cusps rather than whole signs, and it divides each of the 27 stars into nine subs in Vimshottari proportion — 249 subs across the zodiac. The sub lord of a cusp or a planet is what KP judges by. This calculator produces the full sub-lord table for your birth, exactly as KP Readers describe it.

How the 249 subs are built

Each star (nakshatra) spans 13°20′ and is ruled by one of the nine Vimshottari lords. KP divides the star among the same nine lords in the proportion of their dasha years, starting with the star's own lord: Ketu's sub covers 7/120 of the star, Venus's 20/120, the Sun's 6/120 and so on. That gives 243 arcs; the six that straddle a sign cusp (at 30°, 90°, 150°, 210°, 270° and 330°) are split in two, which is where the famous count of 249 comes from. The calculator builds this table from the arithmetic, so the boundaries are exact to the arc-second — number 22, for example, begins at 29°13′20″ Aries and ends at the Taurus cusp, and number 23 continues the same Rahu sub in Taurus.

Cusps: sign lord, star lord, sub lord

KP casts the twelve house cusps with the Placidus method at your birth place. For each cusp the calculator shows the degree and three lords: the sign lord (the classical ruler), the star lord (the ruler of the nakshatra the cusp falls in) and the sub lord. In KP the sub lord of a cusp decides whether the matters of that house fructify: if it signifies the houses favourable to a matter the matter is promised, if it signifies their twelfth houses it is denied. The 7th cusp sub lord speaks about marriage, the 10th about profession, the 2nd, 6th and 11th about income and gains, the 5th about children and romance — and the calculator gives you each of them.

Beyond the polar circles Placidus has no solution; there the calculator uses Porphyry cusps and labels the chart accordingly.

Planets and their significations (A, B, C, D)

A planet in KP signifies houses at four levels of strength: A — the house occupied by its star lord (strongest), B — the house it occupies itself, C — the houses owned by its star lord, and D — the houses it owns. Rahu and Ketu own nothing, so they act as agents of the planets conjunct with or aspecting them, of their star lord and of their sign lord. The calculator lists every planet with its sign, degree, Placidus house, star lord, sub lord, retrograde status and the full set of houses it signifies. When you read a KP text that says "the sub lord of the 10th cusp must signify 2, 6, 10 or 11 for a job", you can check it on this card directly.

What KP astrologers do with this table

Natal judgement asks whether a cusp sub lord signifies the right houses; timing asks which dasha, bhukti and antara lords signify those houses; and the classic KP confirmation is the ruling planets at the moment of judgement — the lords of the ascendant and the Moon plus the day lord. ProxaAI's paid reading does all of this when your kundli follows KP: the astrologer receives this table as a labelled KP block — the cuspal sub lord's promise for the question's houses and the running dasha lords — and the Prashna specialist adds a KP horary chart for the moment you ask.

KP horary and the number 1–249

KP horary lets a querent pick a number from 1 to 249. The ascendant is fixed at the first degree of that sub and the cusps are erected for the moment that degree rises, while the planets are taken for the moment of judgement. Inside a ProxaAI session a kundli that follows KP can start any question with "KP number 108: …" and the Prashna specialist erects the chart from the number, judges the cuspal sub lord and scans the coming Sun and Moon transits through the stars of the ruling planets that signify the favourable houses — the KP way of dating an event. This free page shows the natal table; the horary judgement needs a question and a session.

KP ayanamsa versus Lahiri

The KP ayanamsa is a few arc-minutes smaller than Lahiri, which is enough to move a planet or cusp across a sub boundary. If you compare this card with the free Vedic kundli you will see the same planets a few minutes further along the zodiac and, because the kundli uses whole-sign houses while KP uses Placidus cusps, sometimes in a different house. Neither is a mistake; they are the two systems' definitions. The KP ayanamsa used here is K.S. Krishnamurti's original, often called "KP old" (Swiss Ephemeris mode 5); some KP software defaults to the later "KP New", so its cusps can sit slightly apart from this card. The calculator states the ayanamsa it used on the card.

Frequently asked questions

Why do I need the exact birth time and place?
The cusps and the ascendant sub lord change every few minutes, and the Placidus houses depend on latitude. Without both, a KP chart is not defined, so the calculator asks for them.
Which ayanamsa is used?
K.S. Krishnamurti's original ayanamsa, often called "KP old" — SE_SIDM_KRISHNAMURTI, mode 5 in the Swiss Ephemeris — not the later "KP New" variant some KP software defaults to. Its value at your birth instant is printed on the card so you can compare it with other software.
What does a sub lord actually decide?
In KP the sub lord of a cusp promises or denies that house's matters depending on the houses it signifies. The sub lord of a planet refines what the planet delivers during its dasha or bhukti.
How are the significations of Rahu and Ketu found?
Rahu and Ketu own no signs, so KP treats them as agents: they take the significations of the planets conjunct with them and of the lord of the sign they occupy. The card lists those agents.
Can I get a KP horary answer here?
This page gives the natal KP table. Horary needs a question and a moment (or a number from 1 to 249): sign in, tick "KP System" on your kundli and ask — the Prashna specialist erects the KP chart and judges it.
Is the whole-sign kundli wrong, then?
No. Parashari astrology uses whole-sign houses and Lahiri; KP uses Placidus cusps and its own ayanamsa. ProxaAI keeps both and never mixes the two house sets in one sentence.
