AI BaZi (Four Pillars) Readings
The astrology of China, Korea, Japan and Vietnam is BaZi — Saju, Shichu Suimei, Tứ Trụ. ProxaAI computes your four pillars exactly, scores your Day Master, names your useful element and gives BaZi a specialist of its own that times your questions by luck pillar, annual pillar and monthly pillar.
Quick Answer: What Is a BaZi Reading?
BaZi (八字, Four Pillars of Destiny) encodes your birth as four stem-branch pairs and reads your life from the Day Master, the ten gods, the five-element balance and the ten-year luck pillars. ProxaAI computes your chart on the solar-term calendar with true solar time and a dedicated BaZi master AI reads it in every question, beside the Vedic specialists but never blended with them.

BaZi writes a birth moment as four pillars — year, month, day and hour — each a heavenly stem over an earthly branch, eight characters in all. The stem of the day pillar is the Day Master, you; the other seven characters are read as its relationships, the ten gods: Companion and Rob Wealth, Eating God and Hurting Officer, Direct and Indirect Wealth, Direct Officer and Seven Killings, Direct and Indirect Seal. Whether the Day Master is strong or weak decides which of them help and which hurt, and names the useful element that steadies the chart. Time enters through the ten-year luck pillars, the annual pillar of each solar year and the monthly pillar, read against the natal pillars for clashes and combinations.
What ProxaAI Computes
The BaZi specialist receives a complete Zi Ping analysis, computed rather than looked up:
- The four pillars on the solar-term calendar — the year turns at Lichun, the months at their jie terms — with the civil time converted through the IANA time zone, daylight saving included.
- The hour pillar from true solar time (longitude correction plus the equation of time), flagged when it falls within ten minutes of a double-hour boundary; no hour pillar is invented when the birth time is unknown.
- The structure (格局) from the month command and Day Master strength in the classical order — the month command first, then roots in the branches, then support among the stems — with possible follow and dominant charts flagged rather than forced; the five elements weighed with the hidden stems.
- The useful element with its favourable and unfavourable sets, chosen by what makes the chart strong or weak, and the Qiong Tong Bao Jian climate rule that takes Water first for a summer birth without it and Fire first for a winter birth without it.
- The ten gods of every stem and of every hidden stem of every branch; where the spouse star stands, even when it is only stored in a branch; the spouse palace.
- Stem combinations (binding, transforming or blocked) and clashes, branch clashes, six, half and triple combinations, directional combinations, harms and punishments, each with its distance; the Travelling Horse, Peach Blossom and Nobleman stars as secondary indicators.
- Luck pillars (direction from year-stem polarity and gender, start age from the distance to the nearest jie term, the date each one takes over), the annual and monthly pillars of the moment you ask and of the next ten years and twelve months, each with its ten gods and the clashes, combinations, punishments, 伏吟 and 反吟 it makes with your chart.
- A BaZi knowledge base — day masters, ten gods, elements, relations, timing — from which the specialist may cite only what applies to your chart.
How the BaZi Master Works
Add "BaZi / Four Pillars" to your kundli — it is pre-selected for births in East and South-East Asia — and a dedicated specialist joins every reading with its own prompt, its own system and its own reference. It opens with the Day Master and its strength, reads the ten gods and relations that bear on your question, then times the answer luck pillar → annual pillar → monthly pillar, and closes with practical five-element guidance: colours, directions, industries, timing. Its verdict enters the same weighted consensus as the Vedic specialists, with a weight per question domain fixed in code (see the methodology). The free BaZi calculator shows the computed pillars before you sign in.
Timing by Pillars
A BaZi answer is dated by pillars, not by calendar months. The specialist names the luck pillar you are in and when the next one takes over, then reads the coming annual pillars — each from its own Lichun date — and the monthly pillars from their solar-term dates, all computed with their ten gods and with every clash, combination or punishment they make with your chart, so the specialist cites the year rather than working it out. Favourable periods carry an element of your favourable set; unfavourable ones deepen the imbalance. This is the same reasoning a Zi Ping practitioner applies, made explicit.
BaZi Beside the Vedic Reading
When your kundli follows BaZi, the BaZi specialist is its voice in the reading; the Vedic specialists see only a short reference summary of your pillars and are told not to judge from it, so BaZi is never counted twice. Stems, branches and elements are never blended with grahas and rashis — the synthesis attributes every statement to its system. Users who also follow the Western tropical tradition or the Nine Star Ki, Mahabote, Mayan and Tibetan calendar systems can add those too; the Nine Star Ki and Tibetan calculators share BaZi's solar-term calendar, so the three never disagree about your birth year.
BaZi — Frequently Asked Questions
- Which BaZi school does ProxaAI follow?
- Classical Zi Ping: Lichun-based years, jie-term months, the unbroken sixty-day count, double hours from true solar time with the day changing at midnight (a birth between 23:00 and midnight is shown under both day-boundary schools), Day Master strength from season, roots and support, the useful element by climate and by what makes the chart strong or weak, luck pillars from the month pillar.
- Why does the kundli ask for gender?
- Only the luck-pillar direction depends on it (year-stem polarity combined with gender). Everything else is computed without it, and the reading says when the luck pillars could not be laid out.
- What if my birth time is unknown?
- The chart has three pillars, the strength is a three-pillar estimate and the hour pillar — children and late life — is left blank rather than guessed. The specialist states this once.
- Is BaZi included in every reading?
- Only when your kundli follows "BaZi / Four Pillars". It is pre-selected for births in East and South-East Asia and can be added or removed at any time; it adds a specialist and a little to the cost of a reading.
- Is this the same as the Chinese zodiac?
- The zodiac animal is the branch of the year pillar — one of the eight characters. BaZi reads all eight and their relationships, which is why two people with the same animal read very differently.
- Can I see the pillars before paying?
- Yes — the free BaZi calculator computes the four pillars, Day Master strength, ten gods, useful element and luck pillars without an account.
