The sunrise rule
The Burmese day begins at sunrise, not at midnight. A child born at four in the morning on a Wednesday is, for Mahabote, a Tuesday child. The calculator applies this properly: with a birth time and place it computes the actual sunrise for that date and location and moves the weekday back when the birth came before it; with a time but no place it uses six o'clock as the conventional sunrise; without a time it keeps the civil weekday and tells you that the sunrise rule could not be applied. This is the single most common source of wrong Mahabote signs online, and it is why the calculator asks for a time even though the date alone gives an answer.
Wednesday and Rahu
Wednesday before noon is ruled by Mercury and belongs to the tusked elephant; Wednesday after noon is a day of its own, Yahu, ruled by Rahu and belonging to the tuskless elephant, facing north-west. With a birth time the calculator makes the split; without one it reports the morning sign and flags it. The two Wednesday signs have quite different characters — the morning elephant is clever, talkative and adaptable, the Rahu elephant independent, unconventional and strong under pressure — so the time is worth finding.
The eight signs
Sunday — Garuda (Galon), Sun, north-east: proud, generous, quick to anger, born to protect. Monday — Tiger, Moon, east: patient, intelligent, watchful, changeable in mood. Tuesday — Lion, Mars, south-east: brave, honest, competitive, blunt. Wednesday morning — Tusked elephant, Mercury, south: clever, curious, good with trade and words. Wednesday afternoon (Yahu) — Tuskless elephant, Rahu, north-west: independent, resilient, hard to predict. Thursday — Rat, Jupiter, west: wise, kind, cautious, fond of comfort. Friday — Guinea pig, Venus, north: gentle, artistic, charming, peace-loving. Saturday — Naga (dragon), Saturn, south-west: serious, hard-working, secretive, persistent. The card prints your sign's traits, strengths, weaknesses and the days it is traditionally compatible with.
The Burmese-era year and the birth house
Burma counts years in its own era (ME, Myanmar Era). The year turns on Myanmar New Year's Day, the day after the Thingyan atat day that closes the water festival — 16 or 17 April at present — and the calculator works it out for your birth year from the Myanmar calendar's own arithmetic (Yan Naing Aye's Modern Myanmar Calendrical Calculations): from New Year's Day the ME year is the Gregorian year minus 638, before it minus 639. Mahabote then draws a seven-house chart for the year. Divide the ME year by seven, put the planet of the remainder's weekday in Binga — Saturday counts as nought — and lay the other weekday planets out in the traditional order. Your birth house is the house that holds your own weekday's planet, so people born in the same year on different weekdays have different houses: in ME 1342 a Monday child is Adipati. The houses are Binga (impermanence, the wanderer), Atun (fame, the rising), Yaza (kingly position), Adipati (the leader), Marana (extremity, transition), Thaik (wealth, treasure) and Puti (sickliness, decay), read as the general fortune of the life; a Wednesday-afternoon (Yahu) child takes Wednesday's house, because Rahu is not placed in the chart. Only a birth on New Year's Day with no time is flagged: before sunrise it still belongs to the old year.
Mahabote and the Vedic chart
Mahabote descends from the same Indian planetary week that Vedic astrology uses — the day lords are the seven grahas plus Rahu — but it is a separate, self-contained system, and ProxaAI keeps it so. Tick "Mahabote" on your kundli and the numerologist specialist reads your weekday sign and house in one labelled paragraph next to your numerology cycles, without mixing it into the planets of your Vedic kundli. Users born in Myanmar get it pre-selected, and anyone curious about the Burmese week can add it to a chart from anywhere in the world.
